Why You Should Improve Your Life as a Teenager
An improved life can mean different things to different people. However, most teenagers are striving towards similar goals.
Here are a few benefits to improving your life:
- Improved moods
- Healthier lifestyle
- Better relationships
- Stronger work ethic
- Increased motivation
- Become the best version of yourself
- Learn your strengths and weaknesses
Sound like something you’d want? Yeah, same!
There are clearly a ton of no-brainer reasons that you should improve your quality of life as a teen. It doesn’t matter where you are in life.
How to Improve Your Life as a Teenager
Here are 10 tips to ultimately become the best possible version of yourself and improve your life!
1) Set Goals
How are you supposed to know where you want to end up if you never establish a goal?
It’s one of the first steps you have to take in order to develop a more organized life. Plus, it helps you reach your goals faster.
But remember… a goal is just a dream without a plan. So, make smaller plans within a larger goal and conquer them 1 by 1.
Here’s how you can set goals as a teenager:
- Write down 10 things you want to accomplish this year
- Divide those 10 things up into 5 smaller goals each
- Create a monthly plan to tackle those goals
- Check off those tasks as you complete them
- Aim to finish all 10 big goals by the end of the year
This will only take 10 minutes of your time, but will offer you years of improvement!
The key takeaway from this is that you have to be working towards something. If you’re not moving forward, you’re falling behind.
Not in comparison to others. In comparison to you!
2) Write Everything Down
It’s easy to think that you’ll remember everything you want to do or accomplish in a day.
Writing everything down is one of the best ways to improve your life as a teenager!
Here are a few things you can write down:
- Your daily schedule
- Ideas that come to your head
- How you’re feeling
- Things you’ve accomplished
- Your workout plan
- Motivational advice
- What you’re grateful for
Consider getting a planner to write everything out. It’s excellent for scheduling and making daily notes!
It sounds crazy, but making this small change to your life will actually make you more productive and eager to work on things.
There’s nothing more satisfying than crossing off something that you wanted to complete. It’s like closing out all your tabs after a long school assignment.
3) Invest in Yourself
One of the best ways to increase your teen net worth is by investing in your quality of life.
Here are a few ways to invest in yourself as a teenager:
- Get a gym membership
- Buy experiences
- Learn important life values
- Develop new skills
- Get a massage
- Take care of your hygiene
There are hundreds of ways to practice self care. It’s an important aspect of life!
Think of yourself as a business in a way. You need to invest time, money, and effort into making it grow. Same thing goes for you and your body!
4) Actively Search for Hobbies
Hobbies aren’t always easy to get into, especially if you just wait for them to come along. Every hobby starts with an interest!
If you’ve EVER been even slightly interested in some sort of hobby, I highly encourage you to do some research on it and give it a try.
You have to actively look for them though, otherwise they won’t just randomly show up (especially as a teenager).
You never know, maybe one day that hobby will turn into a real business or side hustle!
5) Focus on Mental Health
Did you know that the average teenager in high school has higher stress levels than an adult? That’s nuts!
There’s no question that mental health is an extremely important topic in a teenager’s life.
If you’re going through any form of depression, anxiety, stress, etc., there is help available to you out there.
While you might not be able to fix everything without outside resources, there are a few great ways to increase your mental health:
- Write out how you feel
- Start finding purpose in things you enjoy
- Cut out negative people from your life
- Practice gratitude
- Eat a healthy diet
And be sure to avoid…
- Too much caffeine
- Poor sleep schedules
No matter what stage you are at mentally, there is always something you can do to improve your health.
6) Get Into Fitness
If you want to know how to improve your life as a teenager, getting into fitness is a great start!
Regular exercise has a ton of benefits:
- Improved mood
- Makes you more alert
- Boosts your immune system
- Fights off illnesses
- Promotes blood flow
- Good for your heart
- Helps you achieve your dream body
- Boosts confidence
The list goes on and on. It’s one of the greatest things you can do for yourself on a regular basis.
If you don’t have a gym membership, consider starting out with this full body workout for teenagers at home!
You will suddenly feel this productivity that you’ve never experienced before and develop a better sense for physical health.
7) Always Educate Yourself
Knowledge will unlock so many things for you as a teenager. The more you know, the better off you’ll be!
Unfortunately, there are too many important things school doesn’t teach you. That’s why it’s your duty as a teenager to learn them on your own.
Here are a few things to start learning on your own:
- Computer Skills
Trust me, you’ll be so happy you did! You will not only be ahead of your peers, but also ahead of yourself.
Youtube and books are both excellent resources to learn about these things.
Keep growing mentally, because you can only grow so much physically.
8) Develop a Sleep Schedule
Your quality of sleep has a lot to do with your quality of life! After all, sleep accounts for nearly a third of your life.
If your sleep is messed up right now, it might be a good idea to fix your sleep schedule. It can be done within 2 easy weeks of adjustment.
It is recommended that you get at least 8 hours of sleep whenever possible to feel fully refreshed.
Keep in mind that when you sleep is also important. For example, sleeping 8 hours from 10pm – 6am is much better than 8 hours from 3am – 11am.
If you want to get better sleep as a teenager, you’ll have to get your body back on its circadian rhythm.
9) Stop Getting Offended Easily
Nowadays, it’s almost impossible to not see someone getting offended on the internet. Plus, it’s easy to follow in these people’s footsteps because it feels like the norm.
Developing a thick skin will always help you in life, which is why you should learn to not get offended easily.
Here are a few things to remember:
- You know yourself best (so stop listening to other people’s comments)
- Practice self awareness (to understand how you really feel)
- Understand the toxicity of being negative
- Don’t take every word so seriously (sometimes people are just joking)
- Getting offended easily can stem from personal insecurities
This is, in no way, a means to call you out or blame your sensitivity on yourself. It is, however, a way to improve yourself as a teen if you feel this way and want to stop.
10) Practice Self Awareness
Being self aware will ultimately help you understand who you truly are as a person. It will teach you your strengths and weaknesses.
With that knowledge, you can implement strategies to improve your life in ways that you couldn’t before.
It can also teach you your interests, career goals, and empathy towards others!
One of the greatest benefits you’ll experience when you become more self aware is the ability to admit when you’re wrong.
The more you get comfortable with failing, being wrong, and losing, the more success you’ll ultimately find down the road.
All of these tips are cool and all, but literally none of them matter unless you do 1 more thing…
Not tomorrow, not next week – start right now.
I highly recommend you go back through this post and skim the ways you can start implementing these tips into your life.
All you need is 5 minutes and a piece of paper, and you’ll be able to improve your life as a teenager for years to come!
Do it for yourself. Good luck!
