How to Avoid Bullies – 5 Ways to Prevent Bullying

Did you know that 20% of students are bullied in high school? Fifteen percent of high school students are cyberbullied as well. It will continue to happen if you don’t know how to stop it. The process starts with you. Here are 5 Ways to Avoid Bullies:

  1. Laugh and Play Along

Remember this – bullies feed off of your attention and anger

If every time they say something mean to you and you laugh, they will be so confused. They won’t know what to do with themselves and they’ll eventually stop. If you give them what they want, they’ll continue, so don’t give them what they want.

Play along too. For example, if someone calls you a fat bitch, as you’re walking away say “Yes I am”. Maybe it’s not the best long term method, but it won’t be long term because they won’t want to bully you anymore

  1. Stay with Friends

Keep yourself around trustful friends when you know there are bullies on the way.

This doesn’t mean it’s time to fight back because you have your squad. They will just be there to walk with you and make you feel more comfortable

If it’s your friends that bully you in the first place, tell them. A real friend would understand and stop bullying you, so you’ll be able to decipher between the real and fake ones.

  1. Stay Confident

This is the key to everything in life including dealing with bullies

Bullies pick on people weaker and more vulnerable than they are. It gives them a boost of ego and drives them to continue.

If you handle every situation confidently, they have no reason to mess with you anymore

People say to confront the bully, but that just shows your weakness and inability to handle the situation on your own.

Trust me, they want nothing to do with people that are impenetrable in the mind.

  1. Ignore Them

I don’t believe bullying is a thing. It takes two to tango. With just one person, bullying is impossible, so try to make it just one-sided.

Anytime they try to talk to you or mess with you, just keep walking with a smile on your face and chest up. Bullies are more miserable than you are, they don’t know what to do when their plan doesn’t work out

Ignoring someone is much easier with friends. Stick with them.

Understand the type of bully you’re working with as well. If you know ignoring them won’t work, then use on of the other 5 steps. Maybe playing along is better.

  1. Talk to Someone

If you’ve tried all the steps, and it gets out of hand, talk to someone. Talk to someone you trust and is willing to help. Tell your parents, a close sibling, relative, or trustworthy friend who will listen.

Most importantly, talk to me! I created this blog for a reason, and that was to start conversation with you guys. If you share a more personal version of your bullying, I might be able to help you further.

Remember to stay strong and be confident. Keep in mind that bullying is not real. And don’t forget that bullies feed off of your attention and anger. Don’t let them have it!
