7 Ways to Make More Friends – How to Meet New People

Having good friends around you is proven to make you a more positive person, but they can be hard to find. Here are 7 Ways to Make More Friends:

  1. Meet Friends of Friends

If you get along with a good friend, chances are you will get along with some of their friends as well. Ask a them to introduce you to all of their friends. Try and make some connections and involve yourself with everyone. This is one of the best working tactics for meeting new people.

  1. Join Clubs That Interest You

Have any interests? Join clubs or organizations that involve those interests. Not only does it put you in an environment with more people around, but they are interested in the same things as you. It will be much easier to connect with someone over a common interest. When normally meeting strangers, you have to run a checklist. A checklist that determines if you match in a common interest. Joining clubs takes that away so you don’t have to try as hard to make new friends. Take advantage of it while you still can.

  1. Get Out of Your Comfort Zone

Making friends is difficult when you’re not incredibly social. But the truth is, most people aren’t either. Get out of your comfort zone and approach people that you normally wouldn’t and strike up a conversation. They will already see you as a more social person just because you approached and that’s impressive. So next time you’re at lunch or on break for work, go approach someone and have a chat.

  1. Get Out of the House More

If you have work or homework to do at home, do it outside for a change. Join a study group or work at a local coffee shop. Make friends with the regulars and introduce yourself to more people.

If you’re ever invited out somewhere, convince yourself to go. There will be plenty of other nights to have your “alone time”. If you still feel like staying home and relaxing, invite people over to your house instead and watch a movie.

  1. Join A Sport

Sports have the ability to turn strangers into family. You will be with these people almost everyday and are forced to talk to everyone. It is a great way to make friends with a huge group of people all at once. Of course you will make a powerful connection with just a few people compared to the whole team, but that’s the beauty of it. If you could make 2 amazing friends out of a group of 30, why wouldn’t you do it?

  1. Always Talk to The Person Next to You

Whether you’re in class, at work, in line, or sitting outside, you can always make a new friend. Don’t be afraid to talk to the person next to you, especially if it’s in class. People are always willing to make new friends. They struggle just as much as you might be. Lift the weight off of both people’s shoulders and get yourself out there.

  1. Set Goals and Seem Approachable

Set yourself a goal to meet a certain amount of people every day or week. You also want to seem like you are approachable. Don’t always walk around with headphones. Act confident in yourself. Be inviting to the people in your dorm or wherever you are. People instantly get along with positive people, so save the depressing stuff for another time. Be a good listener and slowly show off your knowledge and talents.
